Managed SSL or self-installation: compare the responsibilities

SSL is not only a purchase. It must be validated, installed and kept working with the website. Choose a service based on who will perform those tasks.

Ask four operational questions

  1. Who can access the web server or hosting control panel?
  2. Who completes domain or organization validation?
  3. Who installs replacement certificates and checks redirects?
  4. What help is available when validation or installation fails?

Separate setup from ongoing management

A one-time setup service may solve the first installation without covering every future replacement. An automated workflow may require compatible hosting or domain configuration. “Managed” is useful only when you understand its limits and your remaining responsibilities.

Check the finished site

Test the hostname visitors use, HTTPS redirects and important pages. Look for resources still loading over HTTP. Keep monitoring in place so an expiry or configuration error is discovered before customers report it.

Compare Cheapville’s SSL, setup-service and managed-SSL options without assuming that all are interchangeable. Verify the number of sites, supported environment, ongoing coverage and renewal charge. Never share a server private key through a public form or ordinary message when asking for help; use the provider’s approved process.

Your next step

Review managed SSL options. Confirm current availability, inclusions and billing terms before purchasing.
